I always get anxious and wish if this would be possible with Oriental Lily or one should try and may be that's is the only reason I always quote his post because I wish if its possible in our climatedear hamad: i am pleased to know that u are interested these heavenly flowers as i consider them the best for size colour texture longivity and good perfume. Easter lilies here in daharki as well as in karachi remain dormant from mid may to mid October in little bit wet soil in a shaded area. do not water them too much just keep the soil a little wet so as to keep the bulbs hydrated. in October i take them out and plant them in new container, the bigger the better, placing them two inches from the surface. in my pots i place two three inches of dung manure then mixed loam and at the top four inches mostly sandy soil with a little dung manure. in November here in daharki or by late october in karachi they sprout. i place the pot only in the morning sun till January, then i keep it in open sun. in February a nice flush of blooms come. for the whole month. sometimes in April a second flush also comes which i do not want as April is too hot here and it only weakens the bulbs.i always shift the pots in the morning sun area in march where they remain till may when the leave turn yellow . in the first week of June i pull out the dead stems and keep the pot in shaded area again.hope this will help you.
yahya.
Hamad AK couple of questions,Hamad Ahmed Kisana wrote:yes he is 100 % right that they are surviving here in our hot weather brig arif sb is growing them i also have 3 plants which i bought previous year and waiting for October to re sprout. but main problem is that they remain small and flowers are also small and less in numbers .after seeing your lilies i am much disappointed with their performance.so i think naturalizing is not problem but performance is when you wait whole year for blooms and they dont fulfil you expectations that is problem.but you dont be so anxious a gardeners life is full with experiments so try to bring them Pakistan ad i am hopeful they will naturalize here.
no doubt knowledge and experience speaks for itself and stand out, you really know these beauties but its such a disappointmentUMARKHANMARDAN wrote:Hamad Orientals will never flower in there second year in our plains. They are the most beautiful of all true lilies.Asiatic & Tiger will flower but we can not gain the perfection. When i say a bulb is not flowering or the result is poor then its simply the bulb is out of its natural climate.Hamad i have even left the giant Dahlias.they flower in our climate but we do not get the perfection in the flowers.simply compare Dahlia or lilies in the UK or in our hilly areas with those grown in our plains.Sorry to say but just compare the lilies grown in Brig sbs garden with your own.Brig Arif is a master gardener even he is not satisfied with lilies.his lilies are Asiatic so think about Orientals which need more chill hours.its not the matter of shade or full sun.we can not gain the temps which lilies plus they also like acidic soil.Lilies love full sun only there base should in shade.for this purpose many gardeners grow low growing annuals or even leave the low growing weeds around there stem so that there base should remain in shade.Great rule for purchasing Lily bulbs is that the bulbs should be firm & moist like not hard like other bulbs.if hard then they will not sprout.
