I planted pineapple plant in my lawn about a year back,now it has two small baby plants emerging from its side ground, but yet it has not bear any fruit,any idea how long it will take before i can see fruit on my plant.

If getting fruit from Pineapple was easy in our regions, it wouldn't have been so expensive... it does fruits but rarely.. may be after 4-5 years the main mother plant starts developing fruit... it could be much early but you cant predict..

Fruiting takes 3 years if offshoots from the fruit are planted. 2 years if succers are planted (the side shoots/babies) and 1 year if slips are planted... It's a tropical plant that's low maintenance and should grow easily in our climate. The fact that the fruit is expensive is mainly bcz only one fruit per plant is harvested.

The fact that two small baby plants are emerging is perhaps a sign that it won't flower, but instead produced two off-shoots. Offshoots usually happen after the flowering period. Fruit usually takes as much time as Mr. Talha has pointed out. Usually when the plant is about 1.5 years, it is forced into flower.

Izhar bhai there are a couple pineapple plantations in Malir- you can find locally grown pineapples in Empress Market. Also, there was a good show on tv by Tofiq Pasha about a man in Karachi who had hundreds of pineapples growing in pots on his roof- I will try to look for the link. I had gotten two pinapple plants, one lost tooverwatering in my absence, and the other did give fruit but it was small- nonetheless it was nice. I have three plants now. It is an expensive plant since one fruit per plant + takes 2 years to fruit + fruit develops for a long time.
