Your yellow spider is beautiful...but how many of you remember this beautiful red velvety creature? It does not bite or harm anyone.

:-) only hardcore gardeners can share the enjoyment of finding bair bahootis after a heavy rain ... I took this picture ten years ago. The special thing about them is that if you try to hold them, they behave as if they are dead.

Do bair bahooti exist in other parts of Pakistan?

It is hard to find them in urban areas or near human populations. I found them in plain sandy areas, such as relatively less populated areas in Karachi University. Bair bahootis come out of their homes after the rain, perhaps to hunt other insects. It is a beautiful harmless mite with a velvety feel which plays dead when you touch it and after 1-2 minutes it starts crawling again.

My mother used to tell that in her childhood when she visits her maternal grandmother house, Her grandmother used to dig some sand of her garden and beer bahoti was present there but as soon as She touches it, it used to fold it's legs around it's body and pretend to be dead.
