Gardening is a maddening journey for it’s a one difficult vocation. Takes you closer to nature and brings enormous joy but at the coat of incessant care & surveillance and fending against the countless odds. It’s not for the faint hearted, but for those who are willing to take on the journey of living and dying again and again.

I recently re-visited Lahore, a beautiful city as regards to flora and architecture. I also had the privilege to meet in person Brig Arif, Khabbab and Rafique.

It was pleasure meeting Sir Arif and visiting his Home garden, which according to him is turning into a mini garden. Isn’t this surprising sometimes we have to let go of things we so dearly love. Sir Arif’s personality was exactly as I envisaged and felt through forum. Loving and prompting. I feel often members fail to fathom Brig Arif’s remarks. He is like a father stimulating a child to learn on his/her own through the process of self-understanding and evolution. Members sometimes we need to connect deeper than words..........to understand.

No gardener is alike and you learn and see a varied style through each one. Brig Arif’s garden is one for which you need to stand far and enjoy the massive flowers. He has a very strict criterion for plants which earns them a place in his yard or else they end up in bin no matter how big they have grown.

Brig Arif has decades of rich gardening experience and yet I saw, a continual quest to find and grow what would aspire him, Presumably something with enormous bloom, lovely fragrance, low maintenance and good naturalizing ability. For an instant I was a troubled man, due to the fact that this meant, I too would never reach the pinnacle or satisfying point of gardening in my life (howsoever long it would be), but then I realized there is a thin line here. If he was to be satisfied anywhere in his journey than at that instant it was all over……So its better to be this way for a gardener…..

It was equally pleasurable meeting adept gardener, Khabbab, the forum founder. And it was heartening to see how concerned he was for the proliferation of gardening and forum which remained our main agenda of the meeting. Thanks Khabbab for the lovely plant gifts and the encyclopedia.

Isn’t this amazing that outcome of gardening is not only fruits and flowers, but lovely friends all over the country.

Back at Home
Rain and Watering Scheme
The rains, thereby wet conditions are killing us here. Temperature has improved a little and new growth is evident, however as per forecast, westerly weather systems are going to hit north (KPK and Upper Punjab) almost on weekly basis. Sometimes heavily. This calls for altered watering scheme. I will be relying only on rain water as regards to watering my beds and try to hold back even if soil appears dry. Pots must be watered as necessary. Staking is must, alongside light fertilization and pest control measures, this time of the season.

God’s Garden
"I wish and long for a picturesque spring cottage garden, and Often in ebb and flow of gardening, when things don't go as planned, when plants suffer, i comfort myself with an unusual clue.

“My Garden is destined to be what Allah has willed it like. I am just an implement in shaping it. So….how can it be that thy’s plan is not beautiful, no matter how ordinary (for us) or what shape. The great plan how my patch of land will appear to be this spring is all Allah’s scheme, so why fret……..and believe you me the idea is comforting.

Thank you Farhan
There is a saying (tussi tay kaddian kabran dhond thay o) SEARCHING FOR ALREADY DUG GRAVE TO FALL IN, What bothers me the most when people want to be spoon fed and shy from healthy discussions, disagreement makes a discussion more lively, it is not a criticism or a rebuke, why should one become angry?
You suddenly made up your mind to return, I wish we had more time to spend together.
Regards Arif
