Wt do we mean by term "Wild Flowers"

Post by Muhammad Bilal »

Assalam o alekum

Anyone here could explain for me what do we mean by the term used "wild flowers"??

As in my little knowledge all non-hybrid plants are know as "wild flowers" and most of the flowering plants grown in our home and garden are wild flowers and wild are those which are grown from seed and can naturalize by reseeding.

right?

Wsalam, I believe you know more than anybody else about plants as someone who has studied plant sciences :-) Don't you think the term wild flowers is vague at best since there is no well defined criterion for such classification. I have heard native/ endemic etc.

As per http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/wild+flower?s=t :
"the flower of a plant that normally grows in fields, forests, etc., without deliberate cultivation."

In my view view, far most ancestors of a particular plant growing in forest or natural environment without any human activity are called wild plants.

Thank u all and M.Farooq sb though I m an agricultural graduate but I m still a student and loves to learn. If I m here it is due to my passion of learning and wt knowledge I have got I love to deliver it to others.

I have read there on many websites that most of the plants grown in our home are wild flowers. That is created confusion in my mind.

If we accept upper all 3 definitions i,e

1- native/ endemic etc.
2- "the flower of a plant that normally grows in fields, forests, etc., without deliberate cultivation."
3- far most ancestors of a particular plant growing in forest or natural environment without any human activity are called wild plants.

Then why most of the flowering plants that we grown in homes by human interference, deliberately and in non-natural environment are known and called as wild flowers. Also most of them are native of another areas..

In my view all non-hybrid plants are known as wild flowers. which grow by seeds and produced seeds for the next generation and multiplications.

Thank u all & JazakAllah.

I concur to your conclusion. Human interference does not mean cultivation, it relates more to genetic level/hybridization, unnatural manipulation.
Wildflower are how nature intended them to be.

Yes, I agree with you. Because even, when your "wild flowers" grow in your garden and you let them do, they always degenerate with the time. You cannot conserve them like they are in the nature, in their natural area.
