Thanks a lot everyone for your kind comments.

It's not discouragement that haunts me; it's a feeling of incompleteness despite putting in lot of effort as the subject is very very wast. More I know about the roses, more I realise that how little I know of them. Nevertheless, I will keep updating the data as and when I get time after editing rights are provided. There is a need to make most of the entries more comprehensive by adding more pics. Pics from net (which mostly are from colder regions with acidic soils) wont help much as it is not easy to achieve similar shade in Pakistani climate. Therefore, it has to be pics from Pakistan. Many of my DA roses have different shade blooms as compared to the same roses grown by friends in Canada, USA, UK and other European countries. The size and shape also changes, at times drastically, as the weather changes in Pakistan. But, thanks to a few friends living in other countries, it has been a great learning monitoring the growth of same cultivar grown in different parts of the world with varying climates and comparing them with what I grow here in an entirely different climate.

I will keep doing whatever I can, in due course of time.
regards

Picture: Taken by me of two bushes planted in my home in Okara.

Few more pics for reference. The last three pics are of Jun 2013 when the weather was pretty hot. The flower size has reduced and there is no more pink hue in any of the flowers though the buds are still pinkish.

The bush in full sun, braving the hot summers of Okara.

I will recommend this rose for Pakistan. It's still growing well.

Yes Munir bhai. Queen Nefertiti is a great DA. And its performance in hot areas of Pakistan is very good. In Mar and April the shade is more towards light salmon and as it gets hotter, the color shifts to yellow tones. Very good scent and a nice round bush. Good foliage too.

KBW's CommentsCaprice de Meilland has perhaps been the best of over 40 roses planted in my home in Okara. This rose has shown great ability to survive and continuously bloom in the heat of Okara though the flower size reduces during hotter days when the temperature is over 40*. Starting from Mar till recently, I never saw the bush without bloom and some time, there would be more than 15 large size heavily scented flowers at one time on one bush. This is a fantastic performance. Caprice de Meilland has a very strong classic rose scent too which makes it one of the best roses that I have ever grown. A highly recommended rose for hot climate.

Hello friends.
I have updated the database at many places but a lot still needs to be done. I would need member's help here. If there is lack of participation from other members, it would be difficult for me alone to make it a comprehensive thread.

Members who have experience of growing a particular rose are requested to share the experience here. Please do mention your area and weather conditions in which that particular rose was grown as it makes lot of difference. I will keep adding members personal experience to the basic record.

If pics are provided, I will add those too (pics of own roses/ taken by members in own climate. No internet pics please).

BTW, if you see a particular record of a rose in this thread, first I give technical details and description which is taken from HMF and duly quoted. Then the source of pics is given. There is no internet pic in this thread. All pics have been taken by members and the area where the pic was taken is given. I will also request the members to mention the month when the pic was taken. That will be a good guideline for members. And why it is important? Because the same rose can perform very differently in different weather.
The last portion in certain cases contains my personal experience about a particular rose.

In due course of time I will give a list of all roses in the database on first page of the thread. List will be in alphabetical order and each entry will be hyperlinked with the concerned post. It will help members in searching the rose they are looking for at page 1 of the thread.

Most important thing for me is the personal experience of a member. A very minor thing about rose growing that a member has experienced himself, for me, carries more value than a wonderful article from internet that does not relate to our conditions in Pakistan. So please don't be shy of sharing your experience. It is of great value to all of us.

Lastly, I don't want to be the only one posting in this thread you know. Please feel free to participate if you feel the thread is worth it.

Soon I will update the condition of my few roses in both summers and winter flowering and bloom Quality. Maybe we should start a new thread as to upload pictures there and then can simply add it to rose database.
