Is it a corm or a scaly bulb?

must say a corm but what is the difference between corm and a scaly bulb? to my understanding bulb is a totally different thing and a corm could be defined as a scally bulb because its round like a bulb but has scales on it. there are different types in bulbous family and each has unique and different characteristics which differentiate them from each other.

The bulb shown in the picture is scaly bulb.it seems to me true lily bulb.A typical corm is the Glad bulb.look at the Glad & compare it with true bulbs like the bulb of Daffodile or Amaryllis.the corm is flat in structure but bulb is round.A scaly bulb has numerous scales.Onion is a true bulb & garlic is scaly bulb but glad is a totally different & is corm.Just compare the shapes & you will get the idea.Garlic scaly bulb is hard dry but lilium is soft & wet.If not soft then its expired scaly bulb.I hope you got my point.

Thanks Umer for differentiating the different types for me, it will help me to understand more as I m still learning but it arise one question, why commercially or generally they use word corm for lily? I have never heard someone using the word scally bulb.

When we come to commercial bases some times they use the old terms.Dahlia is a popular tuber but they list it under bulbs.Another thing the popular Amaryllis is not the true Amaryllis but Hippeastrum & its hybrids.The true Amaryllis is the Belladonna lily.Another thing so many bulbs are sold out under the list of Lilly but they are not actually lily.Lillium are the true lily.
If you see the Glad which is a typical corm but is sold as bulb.
So for the commercial grower its important what gives them handsome returns.
Specifically speaking of true lily its a scaled bulb.

For the first time I manage to get seeds from Lily seed pods, I will also send some seeds to our seed bank, if some one would like to try lilies from seeds then they may ask Tahir sb for these seeds, I have never tried them before and hence have no idea about germination and following steps, I will also try them the first time and will see what will be the out come from this experiment.

I will try my level best to send the seeds to Tahir sb in November for the seed bank, so that interested members may get them in time. any idea about sowing time and other details
