| Other Details | A classic cut flower, gladiolus produces tall flower spikes adorned with large, showy flowers. Often relegated to the cutting garden, gladiolus also suits the back of the border where the tall flowers can complement bushier plants.Gladiolus are available with flowers in a huge range of colors, including apricot, blue, burgundy, pink, gold, red, orange, and white, as well as multicolored varieties."Glads" grow from corms (bulb-like structures)Choose a location in full sunlight. Although newly purchased corms are ready to bloom and should flower even in the shade, flowers will be larger and brighter and stalks will be sturdier when they're planted in sun. The glads will also be able to store more energy for the following year's bloom, which is critical if you plan to re-use your corms.Well-drained soil is essential for successful gladiolus growing. If your soil is heavy or tends to be wet, create raised beds for your glads (and most other annuals, perennials, and bulbs). information on storing gladiolus bulbs by syed adnan. "This is one of the easiest to keep and re-bloom as our weather suits the plant, i would recommend it to all plant lovers of Pak, i have its tall variety reaching 3.5 feet it has astonishing blooms, i used to remove them from soil after the foilage died in May, i keep them indoors in cardboard box in an airconditioned room in complete darkness, monthly check is necessary, one can leave the bulbs in soil as well but i never tried, in Nov i sow them back otherwise they start sprouting in boxes, they produce numerous cormlets but i found difficult to keep cormlets alive , still my glads are increasing in number steadily. Note: The key to success is the quality of corm when purchased, mostly vendors are selling diseased corms which never blooms." |
