Aoa hai friennnds.Izhar is right new growth promotes blooming.i use to prune hard my night sented jasmeens & motias in the end of the summer.after pruning i feed them with well matured cow manure.pruning controls the hight, spread, improves the air circulation in summer, promotes new growth.i also apply foliar NPK when the plants sprouts back in spring.as soon as the first flower buds appear i stop feeding NPK.The plants are full of blooms.in my view motias are very much like roses.they also bloom on new wood just like roses.the only moti i dont like is Mogra.in my expe the long leaved variety is best.

Dear Sir, do check the watering as ought to water these shrubs along with other garden plants, which cause them to produce more foliage rather than blooms...

Izhar wrote:Yes, the plants grow beautifully when given plenty water and people ask why their vigorous plants produce lesser blooms. You will note that all the blooms are bored on the tips of new growth, so more the new growth more will be the blooms. In order to promote new growth you need to prune you plant regularly. In Karachi I have seen huge shrubs of these plants but less blooms, observe the difference yourself.
Dear Izhar sb, do you think that each plant should prune regularly?

Yes Javed, but I am talking about the plants in ground only, those in pots have their roots in a limited space and don't respond to hard pruning well.

Dear Shah sb, would you please clearify Budding. What would be the quantity of phosphorus for 12" to 15" pot?

Aoa Javed sb the requirments for pot culture are diff.due to ltd amount of soil the ingridients leach out rapidly.feed your plants not only the motias on forthnightly bases with good quality foliar NPK.

There is lot being said about folier NPK. To my knowledge it is only required to boost up the plant when roots cant function properly, due to any reason.
