Some of the new roses planted a month and a half back have started blooming...some of them have just been planted a week back (after I contracted a high rose fever from Gardening Pakistan) and therefore, flower size is still small. And there are few from last year which are flowering well. I will share their pics here.




Henri Matessi. I am hoping that flowers will grow much larger as the bush was planted one week back. Has mild fragrance.



First flower of Marvelle in my house.



Only a few flowers so far but I can see hundreds of small buds developing. Hopefully, Ballerina will put up a show for which it is know. Has nice fragrance.



Cherry Parfait bush is at full bloom. Looks nice.



The first flowers of a newly established Micheal Angelo bush. I am hoping the size will grow. Sweetly scented.

Helen Naude, first day bloom. Strongly scented.


The same flower on 7th day. Still very fragrant. I love this rose.

Masterly !!! Now you seem to become the catalyst to further spread this infectious 'high rose fever'. I had removed roses from my garden last year & have again added ( this time )some known varieties after getting effected by the fall out from this Forum. It will be a great job if someone can list the 'must to plant' roses,notwithstanding the opinion that it is a matter of personal liking/choice. This will help a great deal ,the gardeners new to roses or those with limited ground/containers space ,to save them from going thru a hit & trial, resulting in waste of time/effort.

Munir bhai, I am myself a victim. Initially on this forum, I tried to avoid roses telling myself that "no.... they look beautiful but are too much of a bother. I can't plant roses.... it's otherwise too late etc etc". But consistent heavy dose from the gardens of Khan sahiban from Mardan and Lahore, Rafique sb, Khurram sb and others had ot have it's effect and it did.

The fever is on and doesn't seem to stop any sooner......

Splendid KBW. Believe it or not I had removed all roses from my small garden for want of space for some annuals, like Petunia, Pansy, Antirrhinum, Cineraria, etc. After seeing this latest "fever of roses" on this forum I have also started putting few plants of roses here and there .. Only very few have started blooming though..Its almost impossible to cope up with you guys ..... ,

KBW Marvelle is great.i have added it in my next shopping list.If its not available at Islamabad i,l need your help to get this beautiful striped rose.

I have found roses to be the easiest plants...and i have observed them very closely and indeed lot of them. Pruning in Winter. One odd hoe and fertilization. Sit back and enjoy. Early summer couple of sprays, and from there on let them be what become of them till winter.....

Killing them is a skill ....i wonder how people acquire that....LOL

Actually, you are right to a good extent. If we compare the effort / money involved in raising the roses, over the years, and see the quality / quantity of flowers, there is just no match. They grow for years and every year, reward us with a prolonged bloom. If we compare them with other plants that we grow, the effort to reward ratio is much higher in roses. And than they are amongst the cheapest available plants in Pakistan. Most of the roses that I bought this year valued 50 to 100 Rs, except a few old bushes which were in the range of 200-300. Now just compare it with bulbs. More expensive, dedicated care in planting / raising and at the end, we get one flower / cluster (mostly). That's it for that year and then we are bothered about storing the bulbs for next year. Annuals, they come and go and most quality annuals need lot of care during that time otherwise bloom will not be good.

IMHO, when compared over a long period of time, roses are more rewarding and take comparitively less effort. However, they are not care free at all and to get good bloom, one has to give them time to grow and look after them during that time.

Very few flowers will add to the beauty of your side table and also fill the room with perfume like a rose does....
