I planted lots of Zinnias at NO SHADE Thokar garden. About 90% have died (over Rs. 3000 Lost). Now they tell me I should have planted different types of Sun flower instead
What flowers Should I be growing?

Zinnia Profusion the toughest of all zinnias & best suited to our scorching sun.plant it in separate colors.Portulaca Sundial,a very good series.what i like about this portulaca i have even seen its flower blooming in tube light,s light in night.other portulacas normally close in after noon.another tough & rough is the globe amaranth.

Annuals, only portulaca and maybe vinca. The heat on my terrace is killing these days and i plant tube roses, many colors or morning glories and water lilies. You will have to rely on perennials for summer flowers which include cassias, gol mohrs, largerstromias, cannas, daylilies, Ruellia ,motias, lantana, hibiscus, yellow parkinsonia, snail vine, tecomas, bower vines etc.
I have heard that Echinacea when established are very heat tolerant, but in my experience they are not tough plants in lahore specially in monsoon but they are good bet for lahore. For foliage, i have read that dichondra is very heat tolerant.
There is another small tree from tecoma and tabebuia family named desert willow (Chilopsis) as the name suggests suitable for desert heat. Never tried it.

Birg. sb. I wanted to add one thing that Zinnias, if directly sown in the bed, perform way better then the transplanted seedlings...

Sir i suggest to start plants in shade/semi shade(green house) and then when they become large enough to handle the heat..transplant them carefully where required.....but transplanting must be donein a cloudy period/protection by sheet for couple of days...i also lost many seedlings due heat but this is working for me now.....

Izhar you,re right actually its the right method to sow seeds directly where they are to flower just like sweet peas.zinnia hates root disturbance.
