Hi all

I have a couple of mango plants - one each of chaunsa and sindhri. I bought them from a local nursery in clifton, karachi. They were about 3-4 feet tall and healthy enough when I planted them in my garden from pots. To my dismay, they are both unhappy in their new home and are slowly dying after shedding all their leaves and there are no signs of fresh sprouting from their branches. I water them regularly. When consulted on this problem the nursery wala advised me to increase watering to the plants so I have made a circle of raised soil around their stems so that it can take more water. Is this going to work or the nursery wala is giving me a wrong advice? Pl help.

Nursery wallas are no angels. They keep their plants under 80% green house netting and force them to grow tall and leggy so that customers pay more for the size instead of age. What you describe seems to be both transplant shock and sunlight shock combined together. You should have brought them home and then gradually brought them into the full sun in order to get them used to their new environment before transplanting into ground. Well, to late if they are alive till now then they are ok, warna just a lesson learnt. Next time put up a tripod of three sticks over the plants and cover them with some green house netting or thatch.

Masud sb is very right.slowly move your plants to sun so they become harden.its good if you purchase small budded plants in spring.once established they make a strong & promising tree.Masud i have two Sindri trees.the problem caused is die back.i have used every thing but now i think i should uproot the trees & replace with new ones.i m planning of Sensation mango.my Landa & Anwar are doing very well in my climate.


Look at the bark.i have used Bayers Antracol but its useless.
