Recommended Nurseries in Karachi?
Hey everyone.
I'm looking for some good nurseries which sell healthy plants at reasonable prices in Karachi. What nursery would you recommend? Also nurseries that can understand English plant names and sell correctly named plant would be a plus.

It is across Sir Syed University and next to the Federal Urdu University in Gulshan. There are many nurseries along that road. It is hard to miss them.new gardener wrote:M Farooq wrote:I think quality wise Shalimar nursery in Karachi is the best.

There is a saying that "Mehnga rulaye ek baar, sasta rulaye baar baar". Price wise Shalimar is on the higher end but if you happen to buy fruit trees from there you will not regret it. I had purchased an Amla tree, it did not bear fruits for few years and then it bore so many fruits that the whole neighbourhood picked the fruits (usually without asking :-)), and the branches stooped towards the ground from the weight of the fruits to the point of breaking off the tree.Khirmun wrote:And price wise?
Anyways it is a good idea to ask for prices from at least 2-3 nurseries if it is too high-especially if it seems like a common flowering plant or tree. Since all the 5-6 nurseries are in one line it will not be that difficult.

Re: Recommended Nurseries in Karachi?
I have never been to any Gulshan nursery (its the other end of the city for me). But I have visited nearly every nursery in garden and clifton area I could find and the price difference is mind boggling. Specially when the seller doesnt know even the correct name of the plant he is selling. I bought a few tillandsia which were sold to me as orange and red, he assured me that they can survive fine in a high humidity (60-80%) under strong artificial lighting. They never turn red and just kept shading leaves till they were partially dead.

Yep. Bought some spanish moss and a bromeliad from them. The bromeliad died in a month. The guy didnt know its name or anything. They sure have varieties and everything but they dont know much about them. Price isnt reasonable either. A small bromeliad with a 6-7 threads of spanish moss for 250pkr.
