When i planted the seedling of passiflora incarnata into the soil bed i did not know it spreads by underground runners. Now runners are horizontal and many new plants are emerging from various parts of my small soil bed. Is there any way to restrict its runners not spreading horizontally? I want it grow roots vertically deep down but no side ways.

Of course i will remove the vine as last resort (i hope it will be easy) and will grow only in pots.

A concrete bunker to restrict it, or may be grinded stone.
