My pots are under attack from a flock of sparrows, they eat up any newly germinated and small plants. They also ate most of the leaves of my gourd vine and Aptinia cordifolia. I'm just fed up of them. What to do??

Could you place an aluminum mesh sheet around the pot and cover the top with the mesh as well? This way seedlings will get enough light and be protected as well.

I too want to get rid of them.
I protect my seedling by fishing net but once they are planted in garden net is not practicable. They love eating canna flowers; a net on them does not look good. I am thinking of trapping them and … ;)
Any suggestion on how to?

They'd not spare my daylily flowers.I m thinking abt setting up a fishing net which is 8-9 feet high covering all corners and all the sides.

Covering all sides" on the cost of display.

you'll spend so much on the net, why don't you buy some food for sparrows and leave t out in garden for them to use, here in our locality it is common practice to leave leftover bread and other things like that for birds. i'm actually sympathetic with them and if they don't buy the bait, then you can always go to "BANG BANG". (it's also a common practice here ;) )

The residents of my Jungle are Humming Birds ,wild Finches, Bulbuls, Doves and some visitors. I try to protect them and provide food for them. The house sparrow thrives on that food and uses my seedlings/flowers as SWEET DISH.
The only way for me is to trap them and---
The Surkh Finch is singing in his cage by my side, I wish I could transmit also.

Arif sb. is right, the sparrows are not eating seedlings just for food. I used to left food in open for my japanese bantam chicken which attracted sparrows and i noticed that these sparrows then use the seedlings and plants as "sweet dish" or "change of taste", now i don't left food in open but still these sparrows are visiting my plants as it has become their habit. Even if they don't like some plants they just nibble on the tender new shoots and destroy them.

How about using some scarecrows or something. I'm sure those pest will go away.
