Onion problem

Hi salam...!! Some days ago(about a week) i was burried a whole onion in soil and leave some upper side for protecting from rotting but yesterday i saw that many little (white) bugs are attached on onion ....the onion not germinated .......suddenly i remove it from the soil ....why this happen....

how often you watered it??

once or sometime twice a day...but always moist and place under the shed...

It doesnt need water... water only when leaves are 4-5 inch...
