To protect plants from cats

Post by Javed Hasan »

Cats like to rest in the pots with plants, In my case, in the pots with Begonia , Lillies and geraniums. Then somewhere, on this site or elsewhere I read the advice to put something with edges in the pot like small cones of pine. I got rid of their habit by placing broken pieces of pots . But recently on of the pot with my precious Rex Begonia was used as a jumping board to climb on the wall and while doing so turned it over. Pot was broken and plant totally destroyed. I re potted (or rather buried) the remains of the poor plant hoping that it may grow new leaves.

Are your talking about pet cats or unwanted guests i.e. stray cats? If the stray cats are a problem, probably the easiest thing is to stop feeding them inside the house (keep food outside). This also means that trash cans should not be kept within their reach.

Buried in half some plastice forks near your plants so cats wouldn't sit near them
