it has 5 sprouts .. how to divide and when ??

Step 1
Watch for the formation of pups (sprouts) next to your pineapple. These can be distinguished from the main plant by the fact that the leaves of the main plant will always directly surround the single central stem of the plant. Any leaves on the periphery of the plant forming their own whorl are offshoots or pups.
Step 2
Wait until the pups are about the size of a mature pineapple top before separating or dividing them from the main plant.
Step 3
Dig into the soil between the pup and the main plant to and use a knife or a sharp blade to cut the pup from main plant.
Step 4
Be careful to disturb the main plant as little as possible while you lift out the pup.
Step 5
Refill the space left by the pup and press the soil around the main plant. It will continue to produce new offshoots
Step 6
Plant the divided pup in good soil and water thoroughly.
Keep the new pineapple plants out of direct sunlight for the first week to give them some time to recover from transplanting, and then slowly introduce them to brighter light. Like most bromeliads, pineapples like as much sun as they can get.

intriguing is it possible to grow pineapples in Lahore ??

I believe it could be easily grown in Lahore, for pineapple plant you have to buy a whole pineapple and plant the crown in plain soil... eat the rest..

Pineapples are very hardy .. they need 10 to 12 hours direct sun very low watering and small pots like cacti..
don't know much about the soil...

will definately be trying them soon firstly i guess willl have to inform the family to get used to eating a dozen pineapples

but u have to be very patience..

cause pineapples start fruiting after 18 month and its fruit take 6-8 months to mature ... and they need care when fruit grows bigger they need support .. better u find an old pineapple plant from nursery ..

i have seen Pineapple farms in Nigeria.there they do not supported the fruits.i think the pineapple plants available here in local nurseries are just ornamental ones.may be there will be some farming varieties.plus the pineapple needs tropical climate.
