Update: Flora of Pakistan (Garden Plants)
Posted: July 24th, 2013, 8:05 am
Dear readers,
With the help of dedicated forum members and photo contributors (Munir shb, A. Y. Khan, Farhan, Umar shb, & Khabbab) so far we have compiled about 130 unique garden plants. Not all plants are native, but we are creating a database of plants that can be grown in Pakistan with relative ease. Additionally KBW sahab has compiled excellent information about 70 different roses that can be grown in Pakistan. That sums up to 200 individual plants so far. Additionally weeds/grasses are also identified. The short summary provides many details which can help you decide whether you need a given plant or not (ranging from flower colour, fragrance, flowering season etc) with pictures. The current focus has been on exotic and ornamental plants and trees that can be grown in Pakistan.
This project cannot continue without your support in terms of sharing pictures of your garden plants with us. I have run out of pictures. This can be done in your leisure time. However random/ out of focus pictures will not be helpful, what we need is at least a very clear picture of the leaves and the flower, so that anyone (ranging from an amateur to an expert) can easily identify it. A useful sample picture is attached. Hamad Kisana sahab has been very active and his efforts are highly commendable in this regard. You can email the pictures at pakistan.flora@yahoo.com. Please name the plant if possible.
You need to register and sign in in order to see all the database entries.
