Assalam alaikum,

I just joined this forum and am a beginner when it comes to gardening. I have a rectangular lawn (28 ft long x 6 ft wide x about 1 ft deep) outside my house in Gulistan e Johar, Karachi, which right now is just a greenbelt with grass and a few flowers in a kiari. I'd like to make good use of it and do my bit as a Karachiite to make our city a little bit greener (especially with heatwaves becoming common).

I want to know what would be good small to medium-sized trees (up to two storeys high, we have electricity lines running above) that would be suitable for planting - since the lawn is quite shallow (about 1 ft deep and sloping, with a base of concrete), please advise trees whose roots will not damage the house's walls or foundation. I'd prefer fruit trees or shade-providing trees that don't suck up too much water.

Thanks :-)

I wanted to plant local trees. any suggestions? how about Amrud/guava tree? any mid-sized tree that would be good for shallow soil and a lawn of my size?
