Other Details | One of very few fragrant buddlejas which have adapted to Lahore climate, this a shrub which flowers only in spring once a year. There are some mature specimens growing in Lawrence gardens lahore as well as in GCU botanic garden and in Botanical Garden University of agriculture Faisalabad . Good for pot culture too. Leaves are silvery from backside which is common in all buddlejas. Honey fragrance carries to a distance when in full bloom. Flowering is so profuse that whole shrub is covered with flowers but because of its dull color it does not create the exotic display. Another problem is that due to its rampant growth is hard to keep in check, and it becomes unattractive without active pruning. There are some cultivars developed for this shrub, one of them is "Sweet Promise". Below picture is taken from my terrace garden, where a mature specimen is growing in a 22 inches pot. Pics are affected from high sun exposure, original plant looks better when in bloom. Note that it blooms on old wood so prune soon after flowering. |
