| Other Details | A bold evergreen plant with 2 to 3 foot tall clumps of lush glossy lime green strap shaped leaves. In mid-summer appear the scape bearing sweetly fragrant white cupped shaped flowers that have 6 long trailing narrow extensions dangling beneath, creating the allusion to a spider. Plant in full sun and irrigate regularly - multiplies best if kept in wet or even boggy soils but is not finicky of soil type. Evergreen in frost free gardens.Hymenocallis means ‘beautiful membrane’The biggest flush of flowers occurs at the start of the rainy season and then the flowers seem to come in flushes coinciding with very wet periods. Flowers open in the evening emitting their perfume overnight and generally last 2 to 3 days.Easy to grow, spider lilies are tolerant of evenly moist soils with ample drainage. Tropical Giant will tolerate very wet conditions. They prefer light shade particularly in the hottest part of the day. In winter the bulbs will tolerate temperatures around freezing for a limited time |
