Beginner's guide for backyard gardening (vegetables)

Post by shrive 555 »

Hello friends

i'm planning to grow vegetables in my backyard. As a novice i'm totally unaware of different concepts / terminologies though i'm searching this forum to get a hang of it. Mean while i have attached the pic of the intended site, where i'm going to grow. its 7.5 F width X 27.5 F in length. i don't have closer picture of the soil. i will be uploading more pictures in the same thread tomorrow.
Experts and other members are requested to guide me through. if possible with pictures  about initial planning.

Thanks in advance.

First prepare the soil by adding 2 inch layer of manure on this area and thoroughly mix it with soil.. water it lavishly and dont disturb for next 15 days... keep watering it daily... the weeds will sprout within 15 days, pluck them out.. do a good goddi and you will be ready to grow veggies after 20 days...

Why not place a 2 inch layer of manure on it now?

You should clean it first and all visible weeds and stones should be removed...

Ohh lovely... great effort (Y)... you should add some obstruction at the edge of grass and veggie bed so the grass does not enter into the beds in future...

Thank you Izhar bhai
Thats what i did in past 4 days.
1) cleaned soil by taking out big stones and leftover grass/straws etc
2) leveled off the soil.
3) made beddings and created obstruction. Each bed is 8.4feet in lenght and 4 feet wide . Gap between each bed is 8 inches.
4)added manure in each bed. I ordered 60kg of manure.
5) watered the beds thoughrougly.
All pics are annexed.
I added 60kg of cow manure? Should i add more ?
