Hi,

Can someone tell me what is the best time and the technique to shift gardenia and magnolia plants from pot into the soil bed?

1 gardenia taitensis, 1 magnolia alba, 1 magnolia figo, 1 gardenia florida. Soil bed is in semi shade whole year.

Should i do it now or do it when weather starts to warm in February?

Also, I assume i will have to lower the PH of whole soil bed, magnolia will not mind little acidic soil? Should i put ferrous sulfate each planting hole or sprinkle on whole bed?

For all gardenia shift them by March... mix the soil with lots of peat (NOT coco peat)... a handful of ferrous sulfate for each plant mixed in its nearby soil... gardenia do great in semi shade area...

Its a small bed. These five plants mentioned above will cover whole soil bed. So i was thinking of sprinkling F.sulphate on whole bed.

I also think gardenia in Lahore can be transplanted anytime as long as it's not too hot. It is however essential that they not be out in direct sunlight right away. If you transplant now they will acclimatize gradually to the growing heat. To my surprise I can safely say taitensis will do well in full sun even in Lahore. However, full shade I have noticed reduces flowering significantly. Best bet like most plants, protect from the strong afternoon sun. I'm trying a few more gardenia varieties in search of the most floriferous gardenia.....

Yes i put gardenia tietensis double heaven scent and magnolia figo variety in soil bed. Both are growing new leaves. It gets morning sun till 11 only. I put lots of ferrous sulfate and bit sulfur in plating hole as my water is very alkaline i checked. I also put some peat moss. I will show pics when they will flowers. So far so good.
