please identify this weed

Slender Amaranth in Urdu Jangli Chulai. It is present in wild plant database.

Mustansir, I am afraid that it is very similar but not Amaranth. If you look at the wild slender Amaranth closely you will notice that it does not bear white flowers. This is something else. See Flowers of India website, they have tons of wild flowers and we can search them by via flower colour. I will try to go through it as well.

Hmm maybe. I did not see flowers.

By comparison with the Flowers of India website, it looks like it is a "Common Heliotrope". The only interesting thing about this weed is that the flowers seem to follow the Sun.

"Heliotropium From Greek words helios meaning sun and tropaios meaning turning back: turning towards the sun. For plants that have flowers that turn towards the sun, a characteristic of many species known as heliotropism. Flowers are small, blue or white, with 5 petals fused to form a tubular corolla with free lobes at the apex. Flowers arranged in strongly curled sprays which look like caterpillars! Stem and leaves covered with downy hairs. Leaves ovate, tapering at either end, and with smooth outer margins. Plant 6 to 30 inches in height. Plants establish quickly in fallows, stubbles and lightly grassed pastures, and is treated as a weed"

thanks a lot. i have never seen this weed but only one place in lahore.
the complete name is "Heliotropium europaeum" according to this site.

then i am bit confused that the scientific name of jangli chulai is slender amaranth or amaranthus viridis.

Slender amaranth is just a common English name of Amaranthus viridis. The word slender describes that it is a thin and a tall plant.

Could you post a sharper picture (if you have one)? We will add it to the weeds database.

The weed which you posted for identification - the common heliotrope. The original image is out of focus.
