Identification of Foliage Plants

Post by M Farooq »

Time for some name game. Munir sahib has sent foliage plant pictures. Help us identify them for our Garden Plant Database. Poor foliage plants haven't got any attention so far and they are present in every home. It is good to know their names to be listed.

1) This is Ficus but full name please:

2) Again a common plant but name escapes from my mind: It bears small white flowers.

3) No idea

Okay thanks, so I have few more entries now :-). Goodness no. 2 is a mouthful! So all we need to confirm the full names (the genus are perfect) of No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6.

Regards.

Do you remember the full name of the border alternanthera so that we can combine this purple one under one entry of genus Alternanthera because still I cannot find the full name of this common plant ? :-(

Alternananthera Forsk is not the full name of this species (no. 4) but they are listing the name of the taxonomist (Forsk) for a number of species under this genus. This is another taxonomic style in the sense that if you describe a new genus, then after the genus, your name is listed in courtesy after the plant's name e.g. Rosa indica (Linnaeus).
