Even at this age I am still learning. Yesterday I sent my Mali to get four 18 inches pots, he brought pots which were only 15 inches tall and 15 inches across at the outer brim so I sent him back for 18 inches pots. He came back promptly with the message go ask any where these are the 18 inches pots.
Now I am wiser,
Market size 8 inches is actually 6 inch. 12 inch is 10 inch, 14 inch is 11 inch and 18 inch is only 14 inches from inside.
Now I carry an inch tape when I go to buy pots.
Is it so in Lahore only or all over.

Interesting... I too found it hard to gauge the sizes. I think Gujrat pottery has smaller sizes than the peshawer pots for the same brim dia

Do you get a 14 inch inner dia when you ask for a 14 inch pot?

In Karachi the most commonly used, 12 inch pots are 12 inch (outer diameter).. the 14 inch pots are know as "special".. the 4 inch pots are known as "piyali" .. all other pots are of variable size..
The pots in Karachi are lighter, with thinner walls and easily break.. the pots from Punjab are 2-3 times heavy and heavy duty too...
