Re: Pot drainage
So, what is the best arrangement? From where to get a reasonably well-performing bulb? Or is this the best we can achieve in our environment? I am keen to get this bulb/plant.

Re: Pot drainage
Sir it needs an environment similar to Eucharis Amazonica..High humidity, shade and moderate watering with loose soil with good drainage, mature plants are available sometimes in Peshawar mor nurseries, you have to search for them.Munir wrote:So, what is the best arrangement? Re: Pot drainage
I have an idea that the Clivias you buy are imported from Europe and that they are what is known as Belgium Hybrids. These plants are bred to flower in 2.5 to 3 years. The customers only buy plants in flower and once the flowers drop the plant is thrown away because it was bred artificially to flower early and the plants just cannot perform as a well grown Clivia plant. Thay is why they do not flower every year.
When you receive my seeds you can grow your own plants. The biggest pot I have Clivia planted in is 35cm but then it is a mother plant with anything from 6 to 12 offsets in the same pot. We call that a specimen plant. It is beautiful to see these pots with 6 to 12 flower scapes. Some pots are so crowded that the plant roots break the pot.
This is a photo from 2007 of Big Momma before it was split up. After the split we had 12 plants.
This photo was when the plants were removed from the pot.
Here is a typical root ball of a well grown plant

Re: Pot drainage
The mother plant was about 8 years old at the time. When a offset is left attached to grow on the mother plant to mature and flower it grows much faster. The offset can flower in 2.5 to 3 years instead of 4 to 5 years. This mother plant was an offset I received from a friend. I has red flowers.
A rule of thumb is that a Clivia need 12 leaves to flower which is often correct. In that year it will grow two sets of leaves (4 leaves) and that is a very accurate fact.
