I am spraying a mix of fungicide(alliete)and pesticide(impeda chloroprid) on plants.somebody advised that I should spray these separately as their effectiveness is reduced when mixed together (chemical alteration?)is this true? Please advise

Better to read and follow the instructions provided by the company or ask company personal for better use of those fungicide and insecticide together.

Any particular reason for applying the pesticide and fungicide together?

No particular reason except that I need not then spray separately.Is this not a common practice?

So if there is no particular reason then there is no need to apply either the pesticide or fungicide. We should be careful in their application owning to their detrimental effect on our environment.

It's seems you are spraying it as a safety precaution which is not a good gardening practice. t's almost as if a person in his early 20's or 30's having a healthy heart starts taking cardiac medicines to minimize the occurrence of a heart attack in middle or later years e.g. a daily regimen of Aspirin (used for thinning blood) and a Lipitor (used for reducing bad cholestrol known as LDL).

One should look at the root cause of the problem. Fungus occurrence can be minimized by good watering practices. Excessive fertlisation or pesticides in the long run tend to weaken the immunity of plants and should only be applied if the situation is dire.

Irfan sb, it is never a good idea to mix two different things until and unless the instructions on the bottles say so. It might be a standard practice but we do not know the chemical compatibilities. You are right, there can be undesirable chemical changes (mainly solubility issues on mixing). As advised above, I totally agree with Khurram sb that regular spraying as a mere precaution (esp. in a home garden) is akin to a 20 year old healthy person taking cardiac medicines.

thanks for the replies.But their could be another anology to quote that is to take preventive measures instead of waiting till one actually fall sick.I have read many articles on this forum which advocate spraying regardless of any sign of a problem.Most of these pertain to roses.
Which school of thought to follow?.I am open for advice.however point taken i shall not mix the two chemicals together.

Irfan sb, you should follow the school of thought which is good for your health and safe for the environment i.e. minimize the usage of man-made chemicals in your home. Chemicals enter our bodies not only by ingestion but through breathing, skin absorption and eventually seep into our underground water. Of course, that does not mean that we pity the insects and let them munch our plants in front of our eyes.

Farooq Sahib has very rightly pointed out the harmful effects of chemicals often used in our gardens. Chemicals or fungicides should only be applied if there is no other solution. Even the endless application of fertlizers needs to be curtailed which are also harmful for our eco-system. The article shown below is from last year's Gardener's World and the first link below discusses the harmful effects of pesticides which are mostly systemic implying that these chemicals are directly absorbed by plant tissues inevitably contaminating our food chain. These chemicals remain inside these fruits or vegetables even if they are washed or peeled.
Scary isn't it ?
