Growing Lilium in Lahore

Post by Muhammad Arif Khan »

After a long trial finally I have come to the conclusion that Liliums can be successfully grown in Lahore.
Every year medium size sprouted bulbs are offered by all major vendors. All of them carry the same varieties, perhaps they are getting from the same importer.
Plant them in at least 14 inches Broad based Peshawari type pots. Plant 4-5 bulbs per pot. The top of the bulb should be 5 inches deep.
I used fine sandy loam with leaf mold and some cow manure with very good results.
Grow them in full sun and use wire loops for staking.
MOST IMPORTANT
After the bloom when the main stem dries cut it and dig out the bulbs.
Separate main bulbs and bulb lets. Cut the roots if any and dust the bulbs with anti-fungal powder. Place them over a thin layer of moist Coco/Peat and cover with the same. Seal the box and put it in refrigerator at about 10C.
In the last two weeks of come October plant them for blooms in February/March.
Friends what have you to say?

Sir thank you very much for such a good, knowledge bearing experiment. It would be very helpful for gardeners like me who earlier failed to get properly bloomed and survive the bulbs. Attempted two years back and failed. Will try in next season in pots in the light of your experiment and guidance . Thanks again and congratulations for successful experiment.
Regards
